Best Area to Stay in Bologna
For a first visit, I recommend staying near Piazza Maggiore, the Quadrilatero or the Two Towers. These locations allow you to explore most of the historic center on foot.
The area around Bologna Centrale is more practical for early trains, late arrivals and multi-city itineraries. Via dell’Indipendenza connects the station area with the historic center and is largely protected by porticoes.
The university and Sant’Orsola districts offer a more local atmosphere, while the BolognaFiere district is best suited to trade fairs, conferences and business appointments.
