10 Best Hotels in Sorrento: Where to Stay for Sea Views and Italian Style

Sorrento is one of my favorite bases in southern Italy. It combines dramatic views of the Bay of Naples with an attractive historic center, excellent restaurants and convenient connections to Capri, Pompeii, Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

Choosing the right hotel is particularly important here. Some properties are directly in the center, while others occupy panoramic locations above the town and may require a shuttle or taxi. Sea access can also mean a private bathing platform rather than a conventional sandy beach.

I selected these ten hotels from properties available on Trip.com, considering location, guest ratings, atmosphere, views and suitability for different kinds of travelers. Prices and availability change considerably according to the season, so I recommend comparing several dates before booking.

1. Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria

Best for: A once-in-a-lifetime luxury stay

The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria is one of Sorrento’s legendary hotels. Standing on a cliff above the harbor, it occupies an extraordinary position in the center of town, just off Piazza Tasso.

The hotel combines historic elegance, extensive gardens and panoramic terraces overlooking the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. Its central location is especially convenient for travelers who want luxury without depending on a car or hotel shuttle.

This is my first choice for a special anniversary, honeymoon or milestone trip when the hotel itself is intended to be part of the experience.

2. Grand Hotel La Favorita

Best for: Luxury in the historic center

Grand Hotel La Favorita offers an excellent balance between five-star comfort and a central location. It is only a short walk from Piazza Tasso, Corso Italia and Sorrento’s historic streets.

The elegant interiors use colorful tiles and decorative details inspired by southern Italy. One of the principal attractions is the rooftop terrace, where guests can enjoy the swimming pool and views across Sorrento’s rooftops.

I would recommend La Favorita to visitors who want an upscale hotel while remaining within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and evening entertainment. Trip.com lists it with particularly strong scores for location, cleanliness and service.

3. Bellevue Syrene

Best for: Romance and uninterrupted sea views

Bellevue Syrene occupies a spectacular position on the cliffs above the Bay of Naples. The hotel is close to Piazza della Vittoria and within walking distance of Piazza Tasso, making it possible to combine panoramic surroundings with easy access to central Sorrento.

Its terraces, refined rooms and direct relationship with the sea create an especially romantic atmosphere. It is a natural choice for couples, honeymooners and travelers who appreciate intimate luxury rather than a large resort.

Guest feedback published by Trip.com frequently emphasizes the location, attentive service, luxurious décor and quality of the dining experience.

4. Grand Hotel Ambasciatori

Best for: Traditional five-star hospitality

Surrounded by greenery and overlooking the Bay of Naples, Grand Hotel Ambasciatori delivers the classic Sorrento experience: tiled floors, elegant public spaces, landscaped terraces and beautiful water views.

The property is located near the quieter end of central Sorrento, but Piazza Tasso and the town’s principal attractions remain accessible on foot. Its private bathing area is particularly appealing during the warmer months.

I would choose this hotel for a sophisticated stay that feels peaceful without being isolated. It is also well suited to couples who want sea views, attentive service and resort-style facilities close to town. Trip.com identifies it among Sorrento’s premium hotels.

5. Hotel Continental

Best for: Central convenience and access to the waterfront

Hotel Continental overlooks Piazza della Vittoria, one of the most attractive areas in central Sorrento. Piazza Tasso, the historic center and the lift connecting the clifftop town with the waterfront are all nearby.

The hotel offers a swimming pool, fitness facilities and several room categories, including accommodations with balconies and sea views. Its location makes it especially suitable for first-time visitors who want to explore independently.

Trip.com places Hotel Continental among its leading four-star choices in Sorrento, with strong guest scores and a location within walking distance of Piazza Tasso, Corso Italia and the marina.

6. Maison La Minervetta

Best for: Boutique design and a more intimate atmosphere

Maison La Minervetta is one of the most distinctive boutique hotels in Sorrento. Its colorful interiors, maritime details and terraces overlooking Marina Grande give it a personality quite different from that of a conventional luxury hotel.

The property is relatively small, creating a more personal and intimate experience. It is especially attractive to couples, photographers and design-conscious travelers looking for something memorable.

The setting above Marina Grande provides exceptional views, although guests should be prepared for steps and changes in elevation when walking between the waterfront and central Sorrento. Trip.com confirms its location close to the beach and within reach of the town’s principal sights.

7. Grand Hotel Riviera

Best for: Sea access and a quieter waterfront setting

Grand Hotel Riviera stands directly above the Bay of Naples, a short walk from Sorrento’s busiest streets. It provides a welcome sense of calm while keeping the center reasonably accessible.

The hotel has a seasonal swimming pool and a private bathing area reached from the cliff. Sea-view rooms and terraces make the most of the location, while the quieter surroundings are welcome after a day of sightseeing.

Trip.com gives the property strong guest scores and notes that it is approximately an eleven-minute walk from Piazza Tasso. Its private beach facilities are an important advantage for summer visitors.

8. Imperial Hotel Tramontano

Best for: Historic character near the center

Imperial Hotel Tramontano is a historic property overlooking the sea near Villa Comunale. The setting is highly convenient: Piazza Tasso, Corso Italia, restaurants and the historic center can all be reached on foot.

Its atmosphere is more traditional than contemporary, which is part of its appeal. Guests can enjoy gardens, terraces, a seasonal swimming pool and views across the bay.

I would recommend the Tramontano to travelers who value history and location more than minimalist modern design. Trip.com lists the hotel just a few minutes on foot from Piazza Tasso and very close to the Sorrento Lift and Leonelli’s Beach.

9. Hilton Sorrento Palace

Best for: Families, pools and resort facilities

Hilton Sorrento Palace is a good option for travelers who prefer the facilities and predictability of an international hotel. Located above the center, it offers extensive public areas, multiple swimming pools and views toward the surrounding hills and Bay of Naples.

The hotel works particularly well for families and longer stays. It has more of a resort atmosphere than the smaller hotels in the historic center, although Piazza Tasso can still be reached on foot by travelers comfortable with Sorrento’s slopes.

The combination of space, pools and family-friendly facilities makes it a practical alternative to Sorrento’s more intimate boutique properties.

10. Grand Hotel Aminta

Best for: Panoramic views away from the crowds

Grand Hotel Aminta sits on the hills above Sorrento, where its elevated position provides impressive views of the bay, Mount Vesuvius and the sunset.

Because it is outside the pedestrian-friendly center, I would choose this hotel for the scenery and relaxed atmosphere rather than convenience. Guests normally rely on the hotel shuttle, a taxi or their own transportation when visiting central Sorrento.

Trip.com guest reviews praise the panoramic setting, breakfast, service and pool area while also noting the importance of planning around the shuttle schedule.

Which Sorrento Hotel Should I Choose?

For uncompromising historic luxury, I would choose Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Bellevue Syrene is my favorite romantic option, while Grand Hotel La Favorita is one of the most convenient luxury hotels for exploring the center on foot.

Hotel Continental and Imperial Hotel Tramontano are strong choices for travelers who prioritize location. Maison La Minervetta offers the most distinctive boutique atmosphere, while Hilton Sorrento Palace is particularly suitable for families.

For direct access to the water, consider Grand Hotel Riviera or Grand Hotel Ambasciatori. If expansive views and peaceful surroundings matter more than walking into town, Grand Hotel Aminta deserves serious consideration.

Before Booking a Hotel in Sorrento

Sorrento is busiest from late spring through early autumn. Hotels with sea views, pools and private bathing areas can sell out well in advance, particularly during June, July, August and September.

Check whether your preferred room actually includes a full sea view, as “partial sea view,” “garden view” and “city view” can represent very different experiences. You should also review cancellation conditions, breakfast inclusions, parking charges and airport-transfer arrangements before confirming.

Travelers arriving by train may find a central hotel easier, while visitors traveling by car should verify parking availability. Remember that Sorrento has steep streets, stairways and significant changes in elevation.
